Provided is a sliding component which, while fulfilling the conflicting conditions of sealing and lubricating, is capable of facilitating circulation of a fluid along sliding surfaces, inhibiting the formation of sediment on the sliding surfaces, and maintaining the sealing function of the sliding surfaces over a long period of time. The present invention is characterized in that: a sliding surface of a fixed-side sealing ring 6 has, provided therein, a fluid circulation groove 10 which communicates with a high-pressure fluid side via an inlet 10a and an outlet 10b, and which is separated from a low-pressure fluid side by land parts; a rotation-side sealing ring 5 is formed so as to have an external diameter larger than the fixed-side sealing ring 6, and an internal diameter smaller than the fixed-side sealing ring 6; the outer circumference of the rotation-side sealing ring 5 has, provided therein, grooves 15 into which claws 3c of a rotary force transmission member for transmitting the rotary force of a rotary shaft are loosely fitted; the widths of the grooves 15 in the circumferential direction are smaller than the length between the inlet 10a and the outlet 10b of the fluid circulation groove in the circumferential direction; and, when WMR represents the width between the internal diameter 6b of the sliding surface of the fixed-side sealing ring 6 and the internal diameter of the grooves 15 in the rotation-side sealing ring 5, and WSR represents the width of the sliding surface of the fixed-side sealing ring 6, WMR and WSR are set within the range of 0.75 < WMR/WSR < 1.4. |
