HARD COATING FILM, POLARIZING PLATE USING SAME, DISPLAY MEMBER AND DISPLAY DEVICE

Provided is a hard coating film which is able to be reduced in thickness, while having excellent transparency, surface hardness and blocking resistance. A hard coating film which is obtained by providing one surface of a transparent base with a hard coating layer. The hard coating layer is formed from a hard coating layer-forming composition that contains a colloidal silica having an average particle diameter of 80 nm or less and an active energy ray-curable resin. The elastic modulus of the transparent base in the machine direction is from 4.5 GPa to 7.0 GPa (inclusive), and the elastic modulus of the transparent base in the direction perpendicular to the machine direction is from 5.5 GPa to 8.0 GPa (inclusive). The arithmetic mean heights (Sa) of the front surface and the back surface of the hard coating film are from 4 nm to 10 nm (inclusive), respectively. The colloidal silica content in the hard coating layer-forming composition is from 20% by mass to 50% by mass (inclusive) of the total solid content of the hard coating layer-forming composition.
