The radial flow of a sealed gas along sliding surfaces is controlled to reduce the amount of the sealed gas flowing to a low-pressure fluid side, and improve sealing properties. The present invention is provided with a pair of sliding components which slide relative to each other. One of the sliding components is a fixed-side sealing ring 2. The other sliding component is a rotation-side sealing ring 3. These sealing rings 2, 3 are respectively provided with sliding surfaces S2, S3 formed in the radial direction, and seal in a fluid to be sealed such that there is no leakage of the fluid to be sealed. The present invention is characterized in that the sliding surfaces S2, S3 of the pair of sliding components 2, 3 have, provided therein, a static pressure groove 22 which communicates with a sealed-gas supply passage, and a pumping grove 5 capable of using the relative sliding of the two sliding surfaces to control the radial flow of the sealed gas so as to flow from the low-pressure fluid side to a high-pressure fluid side. |
