Disclosed in the embodiments of the present invention are a method and apparatus for adding a contact, said method for adding a contact being applicable to the technical field of mobile terminals. Comprised is: a first terminal receiving a command of a first user to add a contact, obtaining the contact information of a second user, said contact information including instant-messaging application account and confirmation code; the terminal sending to a network device a request to add a contact; if the network device confirms that the second user's instant-messaging application account and corresponding confirmation code in said request to add a contact are consistent with the second user's instant-messaging application account and corresponding confirmation code pre-stored in the network device, then adding the contact. The solution for adding a contact of the embodiments of the present invention prevents an erroneous entry by a user manually adding a contact, simplifying the process of adding a contact and improving user experience; at the same time, it simplifies the process by which a network device handles a request to add a contact.
