An electromechanical brake device (10) is equipped with at least three control units: a front-left wheel control unit (28) for controlling a front-left wheel brake mechanism (20); a front-right wheel control unit (30) for controlling a front-right wheel brake mechanism (22); and a rear-left/right wheel control unit (32) for controlling a rear-left wheel brake mechanism (24) and a rear-right wheel brake mechanism (26). The brake mechanisms (20), (22), (24), (26) are each equipped with a friction-receiving member that rotates along with the wheel and a friction member that moves by means of power from an electric actuator, and braking force is achieved by pressing the friction member against the friction-receiving member.
