[Class 84 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a spiral-plate heat-exchanger having closure plates 8 and inlet and outlet ducts 4, 6 and 5, 7 respectively for the heat exchange fluids, the plates are spaced apart by members 2, Fig. 3, welded to one of the plates and having circumferential and axial pitches d<1>, d<2> not exceeding 90 and 100 mm. respectively, the usual edge strips being dispensed with. The spacers may be of any of the forms shown in Fig. 5 having fusible projections 22 welded to the plate by the electric resistance method. In a modification, the spacers 2, Fig. 4, are arranged in intersecting rows having a pitch not exceeding 100 mm. and inclined at from 30‹ to 60‹ to the edges of the plates to facilitate cleaning with a tool s. The plates are preferably wound upon a hub A, Fig. 7, and subjected to pressure applied at the points B. |
