A surface mountable electrical fitting comprises a face plate 11 to the rear of which a body section 12 is secured. The fitting has retention means 21 for releasably holding a retainer 22 to the electrical fitting until the retainer is required. The retention means may be adapted to hold a retainer at a position rearwards of the rear extremity of the face plate, and/or may extend from the body section.
