A containment case (60) for a turbine engine (10) having a plurality of blades (48,50,52) rotating therein has a first plurality of metallic layers (74) each of the first plurality of layers (74) being resistant to penetration of fragments therethrough and a second plurality of metallic layers (76), each of the second plurality of layers (76) absorbing kinetic energy of fragments striking said second plurality of layers (76).
