METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DERIVING A FEATURE POINT BASED IMAGE SIMILARITY MEASURE

Feature points in two images to be compared are detected, position information of the feature points and local neighborhood descriptors of the feature points are derived. The image similarity measure is derived from distance measures of the descriptors of co-positioned non-repetitive feature points. A feature point is considered as non-repetitive if its local neighborhood descriptor is not similar to that of any other feature point of the image, and/or if its local neighborhood descriptor and a second local neighborhood descriptor of a second feature point of the other image are single most similar to each other, and/or if its local neighborhood descriptor is similar to that of only one feature point of the other image.
