514,865. Rectifying alternating current; reactors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., WHITELEY, A. L., and LUDBROOK, L. C. June 9, 1938, No. 17191. [Class 38 (ii)] An arrangement for producing a D.C. voltage of adjustable magnitude for use, e.g., as a control voltage for " Thyratrons " or for operating relays comprises a pair of reactor windings 3 on on the outer limbs of a saturable three-limbed core and connected through rectifiers 5 and load impedances 6 to an A.C. source 4 as shown. Thus by means of a D.C. saturating winding 2 on the centre limb of the core, a D.C. voltage which is a function of the saturating current is produced at A, B. In a modification, Fig. 2, the rectifiers are oppositely directed so that the points A, B are at equipotential in the absence of saturating current in the winding 2, while a voltage of variable magnitude and reversible polarity is obtainable by varying the magnitude and direction of the saturating current. In such an arrangement, the resistances 6 may be the operating coils of a pair of non-polarized relays used in a directional scheme, the two relays responding respectively to different directions of current in the saturating winding. The latter may be in two parts arranged on the outer limbs of the core, Fig. 4 (not shown). Specification 508,847 is referred to.
|
