A method of processing input video data comprising: receiving a first input of video data; generating a second input of video data by tone mapping and color formatting the first input of video data, wherein the second input of video data is generated based on the first input and has a lower dynamic range than the first input; pre-processing the first input video data with a first Motion Compensated Temporal Filter (MCTF) to generate a first pre-processed signal; pre-processing the second input video data with a second Motion Compensated Temporal Filter (MCTF) to generate a second pre-processed signal; encoding the second pre-processing signal using a base layer encoder to generate a base layer stream; and encoding the first pre-processing signal using an enhancement layer encoder to generate an enhancement layer stream.
