1. A method of configuring a routing device in a network during bootup of the device such that some routing elements are available before other elements according to a priority schema, the method comprising:
loading one or more system configuration commands on the routing device into an active memory according to the priority schema; processing the one or more system configuration commands; loading one or more blocks of customer commands on the routing device into the active memory according to the priority schema after the system configuration commands are loaded, wherein the priority schema enables some routing elements to be available before others; and processing each of the one or more blocks of customer commands, wherein each block is processed as soon as it is loaded into the active memory.
