An electronic device includes instructions for receiving a communication; displaying a short version of a notification that corresponds to the communication; detecting a gesture directed to the notification; in accordance with a determination that the gesture is in a first direction, clearing the notification; in accordance with a determination that the gesture is in a second direction, displaying a long version of the notification; and in accordance with a determination that the gesture is in a third direction, displaying an application associated with the notification; and in accordance with a determination that the gesture is in a fourth direction, storing the notification for later review.
