476,931. Withdrawing exhaust gases. KELLY, T. D. June 18, 1936, No. 9336. [Class 7 (ii)] A conical hood 2 is fitted over the end of the exhaust pipe 6 by means of a split ring 3 having corrugated radial arms connected to the inside of the hood, and by three centring- screws 5, so that air entering the wider end of the hood exerts an ejector action-on the exhaust gases. Air may be forced through the hood by the motion of the vehicle, or by the cooling-fan, or from the propeller in the case of aircraft, or from a cowl or ventilator on the deck of a ship or the roof of a vehicle.. When a fan is used, it may be declutched when the ship or vehicle is in motion. The hood may be made in halves connected together.
|
