[Classes 2 (ii) and 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VIII] Fibrous materials are rendered water-repellent by treatment with an organic aromatic compound containing an -OH or -SH group in o-position to a COOH group and also an organic radicle having at least 10 carbon atoms directly connected to each other, and with a soluble chromium salt, e.g., chromium acetate. Suitable organic compounds are stearoyl-p-aminosalicylic acid, isoheptoyl-p-aminosalicylic acid, lauroylp-aminosalicylic acid, (the three compounds being obtainable by acylating aminosalicylic acid with the respective fatty acid chlorides) stearoyl-p-aminothiosalicylic acid (obtainable from the sodium salt of 5-nitro-2-chlorobenzoic acid, by reacting with sodiumtetrasulphide, reducing with hydrosulphite and condensing with stearic acid chloride), 4-stearylsalicylic acid, p-isododecylphenol-o-carboxylic acid, (the last two compounds being obtainable by reacting an. alkylated phenol with carbon dioxide as described in Specification 460,282), benzene - 1 - octadecylmercapto methylene - 4 - hydroxy-5-carboxylic acid (obtainable from p-chloromethylsalicylic acid and octadecylmercaptide), N - octadecyl - N1 - p - hydroxy - m - carboxyl-phenyl-urea (obtainable from aminosalicylic acid and octadecyl-isocyanate), N- octadecyl - p - hydroxy - m - carboxyl - phenyl sulphonamide (obtainable from octadecylamine and salicylic acid sulphochloride), 4-hydroxydiphenyl-3-carboxylic acid (see J. Am. Chem. Soc., 58, page 1738 et seq.), the alkylation product of 2.3-hydroxynaphthoic acid with dodecylene, the condensation product of isooctyl-phenol-o-carboxylic acid with formaldehyde, and the reaction product of salicylic acid-disulphochloride with 2 mols of dodecylamine.</p> |
