PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval system and image retrieval method that are broad in a range of an applicable image, can generate the applicable image in short time, and can give users expectation or enjoyment.SOLUTION: In an image retrieval system retrieving a similarity image similar to a photograph image from a database of an image including characters, the image retrieval system comprises: a similarity image retrieval unit 8 that has a face detection character detection and processing part 8a detecting a location of a face of an image, the number thereof and a size thereof, and performs a first image retrieval at a matching degree of the location of the face, the number thereof and the size thereof in a range having a center part of the photograph image cut out in conformity to an aspect ratio of the image to be included in the database, and retrieves the similarity image from the database by performing a second image retrieval at a matching degree of the image after excluding the character to be included in the image retrieved by the first image search; and a slide show unit 6 that sequentially displays the retrieved images in combination of an auxiliary image and the photograph image.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
