PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform diesel combustion more suitably by using a fuel whose self-ignition temperature is relatively high such as gasoline.SOLUTION: Pre-combustion is preformed by spark ignition during a compression step. After that, main injection by a cylinder injection valve is executed before a compression stroke top dead center. Thereby, with flames generated by the pre-combustion being a starting point, combustion of the fuel injected by the main injection is started, and furthermore, self-ignition and diffusion combustion of the fuel occur. Then, in an operation region for performing the combustion control, in the case where an engine load of an internal combustion engine is higher than a predetermined load, an effective compression ratio or a compression ratio of the internal combustion engine is made to be low compared to the case where the engine load is equal to or lower than the predetermined load.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10 |
