This surface-coated cutting tool is formed by vapor deposition of a hard coating layer on the surface of a tool substrate configured from a tungsten carbide-base superhard alloy. The hard coating layer comprises at least one (Ti1-xAlx)N layer with an average layer thickness of 0.5-10µm (0.4 ≤ X ≤ 0.7 (wherein X is an atomic ratio)), the aforementioned (Ti, Al)N layer has a cubic crystal structure and, defining Ia (%) as the average absorptance value of the hard coating layer at wavelengths of 400-500nm and Ib (%) as the average absorptance value at wavelengths of 600-700nm, the relation holds that Ia-Ib < 5. |
