WELDING OF AN ELEMENT OF A TRACK UNIT AND A RAIL SECTION WITHOUT ADDING ANY MATERIAL

The welding procedure for a railway track unit (12) of high-alloy steel, especially a point crossing member, and one or more sections of rail (14) without adding any metal uses a medium-alloy low-carbon steel rail section having a carbon content of less than 0.55 per cent by mass and preferably below 0.5 per cent. The rail section can be of a non-carbide bainite steel containing, for example, 0.05 - 0.5 per cent carbon; 0.5 - 2.5 per cent manganese; 0.6 - 3 per cent silicon or aluminum; 0.25 - 3.1 per cent chrome; and 0 - 0.9 per cent molybdenum. The high-alloy steel track unit contains 12 - 14 per cent manganese.
