In the present invention, a medium processing device has the following: an accommodation section that has an opening which serves as a charge port for a medium and that accommodates the medium which was charged from the charge port; and a medium pressing part that can move between a first end of a wall part in the accommodation section and a second end of the wall part, and that pushes the medium which was charged from the charge port against the second end of the wall part in the accommodation section. The charge port is an opening between the medium pressing part and the second end of the wall part in the accommodation section. The medium which was charged from the charge port is accommodated in a medium accommodation region between the medium pressing part and the second end of the wall part in the accommodation section. During medium charging in which the medium is charged from the charge port, the medium pressing part is caused to be positioned in a first position, and during standby, the medium pressing part is caused to be positioned in a second position which is closer to the second end in the accommodation section than the first position is, so that the size of the charge port becomes narrower than during medium charging. |
