PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reversible type rolling apparatus that can properly and easily control the opening of a side guide device according to the material width of a rolled material for every roll pass of reversible rolling, and thereby to avoid an unintended collision between the rolled material and the side guide device and prevent the occurrence of shape defects of the rolled material.SOLUTION: A reversible type rolling apparatus of one embodiment of the present invention includes: a reversible type rolling mill; a side guide device for adjusting a relative position of a rolled material in the width direction with respect to the rolling mill; a material edge detection unit for detecting a longitudinal end of the rolled material; a computer; and a control unit. The computer calculates a planar shape of the rolled material after the rolling in every roll pass, and calculates the opening change amount of the side guide device on the basis of the calculation result of the planar shape. The control unit controls the side guide device to complete the changing of an existing opening to the opening change amount at the timing when the maximum width part of the rolled material moves to the side guide device on the basis of a detected position of the longitudinal end in every roll pass. |
