Convention date, Dec. 29, 1937. Addition to 496,277. [Class 15 (ii)] Mordant dyes, dyeing with ; artificial fibres of protein, dyeing.-Artificial fibres from casein or mixtures of such fibres with wool are prepared for dyeing with chrome mordant dyestuffs by treatment with a dilute aqueous solution of monosodium ortho phosphate. In examples, a mixture of loose filaments of casein fibres and wool is treated for 30 minutes with a solution at 40-50‹C., containing 1-2 grams of monosodium ortho phosphate per litre, washed, neutralized with dilute ammonia and (1) dyed by treatment in a bath at 50‹C. containing Chromoxane pure blue B and sodium sulphate, the temperature being slowly brought to the boil with addition of acetic acid, the boiling being continued for 20 minutes with addition of more acetic acid to exhaust the dyebath which is then cooled for addition of sodium or potassium bichromate and again brought to the boil to complete the dyeing ; (2) similarly dyed with Alizarin blue black B, using formic instead of acetic acid to exhaust the dyebath. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of acid phosphates in general. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
