A means for measuring a pressure drop across a vehicle particle filter, such as a diesel particle filter (DPF) or a catalysed diesel particle filter (cDPF), and for controlling filter regeneration in dependence on said pressure measurements. A number of pressure sensors 159 are positioned within a vehicle after-treatment system 150 such that they are operable to measure a pressure drop across a particle filter 153 within the after-treatment system. A pressure difference signal is generated corresponding to the measured pressure drop across the particle filter and is communicated to a control means. The control means is operable to output a control signal at least in part in dependence on the pressure difference signal. The pressure difference signal generated by the sensor apparatus has a greater sensitivity to pressure differences over a first range than over a second range. The arrangement seeks to determine the damaged or absent state of a DPF/cDPF without requiring utilisation of an additional particle matter (PM) sensor (61, fig 1). |
