522,813. Doors. YOUNG, W. Dec. 17. 1938, No. 36797. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A door 1 is rendered gas-, weather-, flame-, and water-tight by means comprising a flexible sealing-strip 14 and a plate member 17 secured to the door, and a flange 24 and a rigid projecting member 29 on the door frame, the parts being so arranged that, when the door is closed, the plate member contacts with the flange thereby preventing the spread,of flames, and the sealing-strip is compressed by the member 29. In the construction shown, the strip is mounted between the member 17 and an angle member 16 both of which are secured to the marginal flange 15 of the door. The member 17 has a curved inner portion 21 the free edge of which contacts with the side of the flange 24 when the door is closed. The strip is normally spaced from this portion 21, but when the door is moved to the closed position it is deflected by the projection 29 and thereby moved into firm contact therewith. In a modification, the member 17 is flat and in a further modification the member 17 is extended and so arranged that, when the door is closed, it overlaps the flange 24 and bears against the outer edge thereof. The holes in the hinge butts of the door are of greater diameter than the pins on which they are mounted, and are also elongated in a diretcion at right angles to the plane of the door. By this means, the door can move bodily in its own plane and also in a direction at right angles thereto. To ensure that the door will be correctly positioned when closed, it is supported in this position by a sillattachment 32 having an inclined upper surface. The bulkhead door shown in Fig. 1 is fitted with the locking-mechanism described in Specification 511,732, [Group XXV]. |
