The invention relates to a method to inhibit fatigue cracks in a fluid pump assembly comprising a plurality of pump bodies each comprising a piston bore, an inlet bore and an outlet bore. The method comprises the steps of forming cavities on opposite exterior side surfaces of each of the pump bodies adjacent an intersection of the piston bore, inlet bore and outlet bore, the bores spaced from said cavities; driving displacement plugs into said cavities; expanding the displacement plugs in said cavities to pre-compress a portion of each pump body; and connecting the plurality of the pre-compressed pump bodies side by side to form the fluid pump assembly. In an embodiment, the invention relates to a fluid pump assembly manufactured in accordance with the disclosed method. |
