PURPOSE:To provide a sliding member excellent in lubricity and seizing resistance. CONSTITUTION:The objective sliding member in which the surface 2 of a substrate has a columnar structural layer 5 constituted of at least one kind among metallic nitride, metallic oxide, metallic carbide and metal, in which the columnar structural layer is constituted of an assembly of fine columnar projections 1, the gaps formed among the columnar projections 1 are reticulately constituted in such a manner that they are mutually connected, and a lubricant of gas, liquid or solid is held among the gaps is formed. Since the mutually connected gaps in the columnar structural layer are excellent in the charging and holding properties of the lubricant, its lubricity and seizing resistance improve, and its sliding service life improves. |
