PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound output device which automatically determines whether a user holds a mobile phone terminal to his/her right ear or left ear and automatically switches to suitable acoustic characteristics to perform a sound output which is easy to catch for the user.SOLUTION: A mobile phone terminal 100 has: a sound output section 104 for outputting a sound; a storage section 514 for storing settings of at least two or more acoustic characteristics, for the acoustic characteristics of the sound outputted from the sound output section 104; a drive circuit section 552 for driving the sound output section 104 using the acoustic characteristics stored in the storage section 514; a detection section 512 for detecting whether a user holds the mobile phone terminal to his/her right ear or left ear; and a control section 511 for determining whether the user holds the mobile phone terminal to his/her right ear or left ear in accordance with a detection result obtained by the detection section 512 and controlling so as to change the acoustic characteristics which the drive circuit section 552 uses. |
