To operate a local AC power supply system (1) with a genset (6), which comprises an internal combustion engine (8) and a generator (7), and an uninterruptible power supply (USV) (2), which comprises an energy store (15), the genset (6) is controlled to a setpoint frequency by using the genset (6) to respond to deviations in a frequency of an AC voltage of the AC power supply system (1) from the setpoint frequency with a power increase in one direction and with a power reduction in the other direction. The frequency of the AC voltage applied to the genset (6) by the AC power supply system (1) is prescribed using the UPS (2), the frequency of the AC voltage prescribed using the UPS (2) being changed in one direction away from the setpoint frequency if the present power demand rises above a present power supply in the AC power supply system (1) and being changed in the other direction if the present power demand falls below the present power supply in the AC power supply system (1). When the power demand of the AC power supply system (1) rises, the change in the frequency, prescribed using the UPS (2), of the AC voltage in one direction is limited to a maximum value by virtue of absent power being temporarily supplied to the AC power supply system (1) from the energy store (15), wherein the frequency, prescribed using the UPS (2), of the AC voltage remains shifted in one direction vis-à-vis the setpoint frequency at least until no further power flows from the energy store (15) into the AC power supply system (1). |
