PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus adjustment device with which it is possible to realize automatic focusing (AF) whose accuracy to mixed far and near subjects is stably good and whose recorded moving image looks fine.SOLUTION: The focus adjustment device comprises a focus detection area setting unit 121, a direction determination unit 122, and a control unit 123. The focus detection area setting unit 121 sets a plurality of focus detection areas differing in size. The direction determination unit 122 determines the direction of the movement of a focus lens toward being in focus on the basis of a change in contrast due to the movement of the focus lens. The focus lens is driven to wobble or driven to scan. The control unit 123 repeatedly determines whether the determination result as to the direction of the movement of the focus lens obtained in each of the plurality of focus detection areas is different or not. When it is determined that the direction of the movement of the focus lens is different a prescribed number of times or more consecutively, the control unit 123 suppresses switching to the scan drive; otherwise, it does not suppress the switching.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
