CAPTURING SNAPSHOTS OF STORAGE VOLUMES

A method and apparatus for capturing a snapshot of storage volumes of a data capture group are disclosed. In the method and apparatus, a request to create a data capture group may be received and processed. The data capture group may have one or more storage volumes. Upon defining the data capture group, a snapshot of the storage volumes of the data capture group may be taken.

1. A computer-implemented method for capturing snapshots, the method comprising:
under the control of one or more computer systems configured with executable instructions,
receiving descriptive information defining a data capture group, wherein the data capture group includes a plurality of storage volumes;creating, in a metadata storage, an entry based at least in part on the descriptive information;receiving a request to capture a snapshot of the data capture group; andin response to the request, for each storage volume form the plurality of storage volumes:
causing input/output operations to the storage volume to pause;at a time when input/output operations to the storage volume are paused, causing a snapshot capture command to be issued for the storage volume; andat a time after the snapshot capture command is issued, causing the input/output operations to the storage volume to resume.
