A hand held appliance such as a hairdryer 10 comprises a fluid flow path (400, fig. 2) at least partially defined by a wall 200. A switch mechanism 100 is housed by the wall 200 and a switch cover 110 extends within the wall and contains the switch mechanism 100. An externally accessible actuating button 62a is provided to cooperate with the switch mechanism 100. The switch cover 110 may encase the switch mechanism 100 and maintain a spatial location of the switch relative to the actuating button 62a and/or the wall 200. Preferably the switch cover 110 isolates the switch mechanism 100 from the fluid flow path (400, fig.2). The switch cover 110 is preferably curved towards an upstream end to reduce disturbance to the flow of fluid within the fluid flow path (440, fig.2). The switch cover 110 protects the switch mechanism 100 from dirt or moisture which may be drawn into the hairdryer 10. |
