METHODS AND MEANS FOR MANAGING EXTENDED-SPECTRUM BETA-LACTAMASE (ESBL)-PRODUCING ENTEROBACTERIACEAE COLONIZATION

The present invention relates to the field of the management of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae colonization. In particular, the present invention relates to methods for assessing the risk to develop intestinal carriage of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae (E-ESBL) or for prognosing intestinal carriage of E-ESBL. More specifically, the invention relates to methods comprising a step of determining the abundance of at least one bacterium selected from the list consisting of bacteria from the genus Desulfovibrio, Oscillospira, Parabacteroides, Coprococcus and Prevotella in the gut microbiota of a subject. A further object of this invention is to provide a new composition, for mucosal administration, comprising at least one bacterium selected from the list consisting of bacteria from the genus Desulfovibrio, Oscillospira, Parabacteroides, and Coprococcus. More particularly, this invention relates to such compositions for use in the prevention or treatment of intestinal carriage of E-ESBL in a subject in need thereof.
