A butterfly valve has a bore or flow path and a disc 22 and shaft 24 assembly operable between open and closed positions. The disc 22 has a cut-away or notch 40 on the perimeter of the disc, adjacent the shaft 24, to inhibit interference between the disc 22 and the wall of the bore in a region adjacent the shaft 24. Notches can be provided on each side of the disc 22 in mirror positions. The notch 40 is wedge shaped and its length is approximately 15% of the diameter of the disc 22. A system having the valve for controlling fluid flow through a flow path, and a method of making the valve, are provided. |
