528,196. Reclaiming waste rubber. RUBBER IMPROVEMENT, Ltd., LEWIS, J., and LEWIS, S. C. April 22, 1939, No. 12183. [Class 70] Rubber is separated from waste containing canvas &c. by agitating the ground or cracked material in a horizontally-disposed digester 1 by means of rotating inclined paddles or blades 6-9 mounted on a shaft 4, so that the mass is moved progressively towards and away from the ends of the vessel ; the canvas &c. accumulates at the ends 11, 12, the reclaimed rubber remaining in the intermediate portion of the vessel. In the construction shown, the pitch or inclination to the shaft of the pair of blades 6, 8, is opposite to that of the blades 7, 9. Saturated or superheated steam is introduced into the mass through the connection 5 at a pressure of 150-200 pounds per square inch ; the process occupies from 10 to 20 hours. Manholes 2, 13, serve respectively for introduction of the waste and removal of the reclaimed rubber.
|
