[Class 8 (ii)] An air filter, for the induction of internalcombustion engines, comprises a tubular body 1 having a filtering element 4 at each end, an expansion chamber 13 into which air currents flow in opposite directions after having passed through the filters 4, and an outlet 16 leading to the carburetter. As shown, each air inlet 3 is formed by the annular space between a cap 2 and a partition 8 and each filter consists of a perforated tube 5 lined with tartalan 6 wound on wire gauze 7. The air after passing through a filter enters a conduit 12 which opens freely into the body 1 spaced from the other partition. The conduit 12 consists of a perforated tube 14 surrounded by a sleeve 15 of felt the outer surface 15a of which is rubber coated. In a modification the two oppositely directed conduits 12 are replaced by a single conduit extending from one partition 8 to the other and having a central aperture or gap opening out to the chamber. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts comprises also a construction in which the end of the conduit 12 remote from the partition 8 is blocked to form a cushioning chamber, the outlet from the conduit being spaced from this end. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
