478,962. Vibration-dampers. SARAZIN, R. R. R. July 23, 1936, No. 20458. Convention date, May 29, 1936. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 25, 1937.] [Class 108 (iii)] In order to damp vibrations in a reciprocating engine, at least one mass is pivoted on the engine crankshaft eccentrically relatively to the shaft axis so that the mass may oscillate in a direction substantially parallel to the shaft axis. As shown in Fig. 2, masses 41, 4<11> are bifurcated to engage pivotally the web 6 connecting the crank-pins. Each pivot mav be on the same side of the shaft as the centre of gravity of the respective mass or on the opposite side. In another construction each mass is connected by two spaced pivots to a member rigid with the shaft. Figs. 7, 8 show two further forms of the invention, the masses 8‹, 8‹‹, Fig. 7, being adapted to replace the usual balancing weight, while the masses 8, Fig. 8, are pivotally connected by single arms to a plate fixed to the shaft. |
