[Class 115] A tipping gravity davit device comprises a davit 1 and a beam 9 pivoted together and to the deck, the davit having a fixed or pivoted projection 6 for supporting the keel of the suspended boat. As shown, the beam 9, Fig. 2, forms a triangular framework. In normal trim the parts are arranged as shown in full lines in Fig. 2. To withdraw the boat fully inboard the beam 9 and davit 1 are turned about the pivot 8 into the dotted line position, the extent of the turning movement being limited by hooks 16 fixed on the deck. Between each pair of davit devices supporting a boat is a gang-board 20, Fig. 5. This is formed by a metal frame with hand rails on its sides and covered with a wood board. The inner end of the frame is pivoted to the lower ends of two uprights 21 so that it may be tipped to the dotted position. when not in use. In a modification the davits are also pivoted so that they can be laid flat down on the deck. In another modification the davits are mounted high above the ship's deck so as to leave the latter clear for use as a promenade deck. In other modifications the pivots for the davits and beam are not co-axial. In a modification for two superposed boats two beams are secured together to form a single beam 56, Fig. 39. The upper davit 1 is provided directly on the beam 56 and the lower davit 1 is pivoted on to a framework 51 pivoted to the beam. |
