The turbomachine has stationary component and rotating component e.g. rotor (12) between which clearance (g1) is formed. The clearance has two values in stationary and steady-state operations of machine, respectively. The clearance has a value which traverses a curve having extreme value on account of different time variation of rotational speed and thermal expansion of components during transient operating phase between both operations. A self-adjusting device (20) has non-linear compensation mechanism that reduces or compensates extreme value during transient operating phase.
