PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel water-soluble thiophene derivative used as a conductive material, and novel water-soluble polythiophenes used as conductive materials.SOLUTION: The thiophene derivative is represented by formula (1) or an ammonium salt corresponding thereto. The polythiophenes are obtained by polymerizing the thiophene derivative.
