This endoscope system is provided with an endoscope equipped with an insertion part and an objective lens provided at a tip portion of the insertion part, a first pipe path for allowing foreign matter, which is a factor inhibiting the observation field of view of the objective lens, to flow therethrough, a valve for switching the first pipe path between an open state and a closed state, a first suction device for suctioning foreign matter through the valve when the first pipe path is in the open state, a second pipe path that branches off from the first pipe path at a portion not past the valve, a cauterization device for applying energy to a biological tissue in the observation field of view of the objective lens to perform a surgical treatment on the tissue, and a second suction device for suctioning fluid through the second pipe path when energy is being applied by the cauterization device to the biological tissue. |
