[Class 122 (iii)] A sealing washer comprises an annular member 7 made of synthetic rubber or like deformable but substantially incompressible material enclosed, and positively restrained against outward displacement by, a steel or like confining ring 8 which is axially shorter than the member 7. Deformation of the member 7 may, or may not, bring its inner periphery directly into sealing engagement with a co-operating surface of an assembled connection. The member 7 may have an external bead 7a to engage a complementary groove in the ring 8a to prevent axial displacement.</p> |
