There is provided a control system for a hybrid vehicle (100), the vehicle being operable in a hybrid mode where a combustion engine and an electric motor can be used, and in an electric mode where only the electric motor can be used. The control system comprises a propulsion mode control module (192) configured to control the vehicle to operate in one of the hybrid mode and the electric mode; and wherein the propulsion mode control module is further configured to verify that the vehicle has been in an off-state for a predetermined period of time before switching from the hybrid mode to the electric mode.
