PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form images with stable image quality by maintaining potential of a background part where toner on a photoconductor drum is not attached.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a laser exposure unit 13 that irradiates an image part to which toner on a photoconductor drum 11 is attached with light in a first exposure amount according to data of an image to be formed, and irradiates a non-image part to which the toner on the photoconductor drum 11 is not attached with light in a second exposure amount, so as to form images on a recording material. The image forming apparatus further includes a printer engine control unit 104 that corrects the second exposure amount of the laser exposure unit 13; and the printer engine control unit 104 causes the laser exposure unit 13 to form a latent image pattern in which a first area irradiated with light in the first exposure amount and a second area irradiated with light in the second exposure amount are arranged adjacent to each other, detects a toner image obtained by developing the latent image pattern by a developing unit 13 by a density sensor 40, and corrects the second exposure amount on the basis of the detected value. |
