PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for navigation of ships which can improve fuel consumption by controlling the blade angle of a variable pitch propeller according to marine phenomena.SOLUTION: A ship has an automatic load control function capable of modifying the blade angle of a variable pitch propeller 22 according to the load of a diesel engine 20, and a calm navigation mode in which the rotation number of the diesel engine 20 and the blade angle of the variable pitch propeller 22 are set according to marine characteristics and a stormy weather navigation mode in which the rotation number of the diesel engine 20 and the blade angle of the variable pitch propeller 22 are set on the smaller-blade-angle side compared with the calm navigation mode are set preliminarily, and the calm navigation mode or the stormy weather navigation mode is set according to marine phenomena by a determination of an operator. |
