A method of operating an electrically actuated brake comprising a heat pack with carbon friction discs (10,12) and an electrical actuator with a movable member (13) for engaging the heat pack and operating the brake, the method comprising calculating heat pack position and/or thickness and running clearance between the heat pack and the movable member during operation and controlling the actuator (14) to maintain the running clearance to compensate for temperature changes caused by brake actuation.
