发明名称 Improvements in or relating to tire inspection apparatus
摘要 539,304. R÷ntgen-ray apparatus. FIRESTONE TYRE & RUBBER CO., Ltd. March 9, 1940, No. 4459. Convention date, July 25, 1939. [Class 98 (i)] A tyre-inspection apparatus comprises an X-ray tube and a fluorescent screen spaced apart to admit between them a portion of a tyre while mounted on a wheel on a vehicle, the focal point of the X-ray tube being nearer one margin of the screen than the other so that the rays pass through the tyre at an angle to the tread portion. As shown, a platform 14, normally movable on castors 15 but adjusted to be held stationary by lowering feet 16 by means of a pedal, carries a housing 25 in which is mounted a lead-lined box 26 containing an X-ray tube the focus 27 of which is so positioned that most of the rays are downwardly inclined and pass at an angle through the tread portion of the tyre. The tube is cooled by a fan 30 in the housing 25 and also by oil from a reservoir 44 in the back of a protective lead-coated steel protective plate 32. This plate is spaced from the housing 26 to admit a tyre 22 on the wheel of a jacked-up vehicle to be positioned between the housing and a fluorescent screen 33 mounted in the lower part of the plate. The screen is observed through a conical visor 35. Pivotallymounted protective plates 36 are connected by a spring 38 which holds them against the face of the tyre. When turned down to facilitate the positioning of the apparatus in relation to the tyre, each plate operates one of a pair of semi-connected switches 100 to prevent energization of the X-ray tube. The tyre may be marked by chalk &c. held by an arm 40 carried by a rotatable and slidable spindle 41 operated from in front of the panel 32 by a lever 42. In a modification the tyre rests on two rollers, one of which can be rotated from the front of the panel to rotate the tyre. In another form of apparatus, the car is run on trackways into a protective enclosure arranged over a pit in the upper portion of which is an oval track on which runs a motor-driven carriage supporting the X-ray tube, which may thus be positioned behind any one of the car wheels. A fluorescent screen is arranged in the wall of the enclosure in front of each wheel. The car wheels rest on pairs of rollers arranged in the trackways, one roller of each pair being rotatable by a motor to rotate the wheel. In another form, either the front or rear wheels of the car are similarly supported on rollers between a pair of protective walls each containing a fluorescent screen, and the X-ray tube is carried by a turn-table so that it may be positioned behind either wheel.
