[Class 44] The fastener members of a sliding clasp fastener are formed with longitudinal channels merging into laterally off-set channels, and are mounted in spaced relationship on a carrier of string, wire, ribbon or the like threaded through the channels, the carrier portions between the spaced members being secured to the stringer tape. As shown, the members are of generally cylindical shape, rounded or conical at one end 11 and with a correspondingly shaped recess 12 at the other so that adjacent members can rest together in interlocking relationship. Each member has an axial bore 10 merging into lateral branches 13, 14 so that the members can be threaded on to a string or like carrier 15 or 16 which is then secured to the edge of a stringer tape 1; 2 with the fastener members in the requisite spaced relationship. Fig. 8 shows the carriers 15, 16 secured to the tapes 1, 2 respectively by stitches. Fig. 7 shows an alternative in which the carrier is received in the bight of a folded perforated tape 20, with the members projecting from the perforations. In an alternative the carrier is woven into the tape. The members may be of any suitable material, metal, glass, wood and ceramic material being mentioned. |
