A method for forming a composite fluid conduit comprises providing an inner pipe 14, 16 having a variation in cross-section between at least two different longitudinal sections 14, 16 thereof, and applying a fibre reinforced composite material 30 to the inner pipe. In some disclosed examples the variation in cross section may be provided intermediate opposing ends of the inner pipe. In other disclosed examples the variation in cross section may be provided at an end region of the inner pipe. An electronic device 18a, 18b such as an acoustic or electromagnetic transmitter and/or receiver may be provided to measure characteristics of the fluid flow within the fluid conduit 40 or the like. A heat source 32 may raise the temperature of the initial point of contact between the inner pipe and the composite material, to bond the composite material to the inner pipe. |
