[Class 56] [Also in Groups XL and-XI] Glass tubing forming the envelopes of electric lamps such as neon or mercury discharge tubes or incandescent lamps is circular in cross-section on its external surface and is formed within its thickness with means extending longitudinally of the tubing to refract the light into one or more beams. Cylindrical lenses are inserted in the tubing at one or more points around it, as at 5, Fig. 1. In other modifications, a mirror 7<1>, Fig. 5, is embedded in the tubing and encloses a lens formed by the glass 12 between the mirror and the internal surface. The mirror may be parabolic and may extend to the outer surface 6<1> and reflects simlight when the tube is used as a sign.</p> |
