540,410. Machinery guards. MASSE, T. J. Feb. 29, 1940, No. 3824. Convention date, March 30, 1939. [Class 80 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] A machine for planing metal sheets comprises a movable table carrying the work and a substantially vertical rotary spindle which is resiliently supported and carries a diamond tool which is moved transversely across the work surface. The general arrangement of the machine is similar to that described in Specification 492,813, [Group XXII]. A down folding shutter 100 prevents the work from being pushed against the rotating tools carried by a high speed tool head 34. The shutter is connected through lever mechanism to a bolt 107 coacting with a spring-urged bolt 109 controlled by bellows 111 connected to the vacuum in the table. When a workpiece is removed and the vacuum destroyed the bolt 109 is lowered so that it engages bolt 107 and the table is locked. After positioning a fresh sheet the shutter is raised withdrawing the lower bolt while the vacuum in the work holder withdraws the upper bolt thus freeing the table. |
